Celtic are reportedly set to go back to Charlton with an improved offer for midfielder Alfie Doughty.

Addicks boss Lee Bowyer yesterday confirmed that his team had knocked back an initial bid from the Hoops.

But now the Daily Record report that Neil Lennon's side will go back with an offer in the region of £400,000 plus add ons.

Celtic are also open to landing Doughty on a pre contract agreement if a deal cannot be agreed this window.

Luton have also had an initial bid knocked back for the 20-year-old who has starred for Charlton in recent times.

Former Celtic ace Aiden McGeady hailed the youngster on GO Radio, saying: "He's young and has pace to burn. Open the gates a little bit at times.

"He's got something. He's probably the modern day footballer.

"You'd go, he is athletic and catches the eye. He definitely did for us last season.

"Sometimes when he gets to the by-line he can be a little bit hit and miss or a little bit head down.

"But he is very, very quick and can get the team up the park. He did that for us last season.

"I am actually surprised at that to be honest with you, although saying that there was talk of Fulham coming in for him in January."
